Here's another great blog post and DIY from one of our leaders, Ragan Clark. Read on!!!
February is the month of love and relationships so I'd like to share some DIY recipes you can use at home to enhance your love life with your significant other. These recipes all come from a book called Lucy Libido.
Of course, the first thing you want to do for a romantic evening at home is set the scene. Candles, roses, romantic music, dinner, maybe dancing, maybe massage, maybe more.
What about something else? Something to enhance the senses? Something to heighten the experience and really solidify the memory. What about scent?
I’m going to get a little technical, so bare with me. If you take a look at a cross-section of the human brain, you see two distinct layers. An inner center and an outer cortex. The outer cortex is the most advanced, newest area of the brain to be developed. If we look at the brains of animals, even intelligent and advanced animals, they do not have as developed an outer cortex as humans. This is where our higher intelligence comes from. Good information but this is not the area of the brain we will be focusing on.
The area of the brain we will be focusing on is the inner brain, or the limbic system. This is our emotional center and also where our memories are stored. Scent memory is extremely powerful. It is the first way we begin to perceive our world: from recognizing our mothers to finding our food source. The sense of smell is the very best way to activate the limbic system and recall memories and emotions.
So what does this have to do with your romantic evening?
Make it so memorable that the smell will instantly recall the emotions and events. How? Candles, roses, food? Roses, great idea (and the petals make a very nice image); food, yes, absolutely. But the candles? Ditch the toxins and go for the more natural, and effective way: diffusing.
The obvious "go-to's" are Rose Essential Oil and Sensation Essential Oil Blend. They are high frequency, wonderful smelling and anyone that has used anything with Sensation in it has a very interesting story. (wink wink) Those are great if you happen to have them on hand. But why not make the night extra special with a unique diffuser blend? Here is one I particularly like because it just smells so very good and I happen to have all the oils regularly.
Naughty and Nice
4 drops Light the Fire Blend
2 drops Idaho Blue Spruce (Northern Lights will work if you are out of the Idaho)
2 drops Orange
Put this blend in your diffuser, break out the Sensation massage oil and maybe skip dinner. You won’t regret it.
